America, formed in 1970 in London, is a British-American rock band known for its harmonious blend of folk, rock, and pop. The original trio—Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley, and Dan Peek—were sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in England. They met while attending London Central High School and began performing together, quickly gaining attention for their melodic sound and introspective lyrics.

Their self-titled debut album, America (1971), featured the breakout single “A Horse with No Name,” which topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and became an enduring classic.
