Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness is the solo project of American singer-songwriter and pianist Andrew McMahon, an alternative-rock veteran whose piano-driven anthems have soundtracked two decades of the genre. Born September 3, 1982, in Concord, Massachusetts, and raised in Southern California, McMahon first rose to prominence as the frontman of piano-rock band Something Corporate before launching Jack's Mannequin and, in 2014, his namesake solo venture.

As the leader of Something Corporate in the early 2000s, McMahon scored alternative hits including "Punk Rock Princess" and the cult favorite "Konstantine." He then founded Jack's Mannequin, whose 2005 debut Everything in Transit became a power-pop landmark on the strength of singles "The Mixed Tape" and "Dark Blue" — released the same week McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia, a battle he survived and later channeled into advocacy.
