Culture Club emerged as a British pop band in London during 1981 through the leadership of Boy George, who brought together New Wave music with soulful melodies and flamboyant fashion. The original members of the band included Roy Hay on guitar and keys, Mikey Craig on bass and Jon Moss on drums who helped create the distinctive sound and visual style of the group.

The debut album Kissing to Be Clever (1982) brought worldwide success through its two major hits "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" and "Time (Clock of the Heart)" which reached international chart success while showcasing Boy George's powerful singing voice.
