DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeffrey Allen Townes), whose career began in the mid-1980s, is an American DJ, producer, and groundbreaking hip-hop innovator from West Philadelphia. Known for his smooth turntable mastery, inventive scratching techniques, and trailblazing role in defining early hip-hop sound, he remains one of the most influential DJs in music history.
He first gained prominence as half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince—alongside Will Smith—with their debut Rock the House (1987) and early hits like “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble.” The duo became mainstream stars with He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper (1988), which went double-platinum and featured Grammy-winning singles “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and “Summertime.”
