About Ed Roland
Ed Roland, whose career began in the early 1990s, is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Stockbridge, Georgia, best known as the creative force behind the rock band Collective Soul. Known for his emotive vocals, melodic guitar riffs, and introspective lyricism, Roland has become a defining voice in post‑grunge and alternative rock.
He formed Collective Soul in 1992 with his brother Dean Roland and fellow musicians, releasing the independently recorded demo Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid (1993). The breakthrough single “Shine,” written and performed by Roland, became a college-radio sensation and propelled the band to national fame.
