The Foo Fighters emerged in 1994 from Seattle through the musical vision of former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl to establish themselves as essential forces in alternative rock and post-grunge music. The band started as a solo project before developing into a complete rock band.

The self-titled Foo Fighters album (1995) showcased Grohl's solo work as he recorded most of the tracks by himself while "This Is a Call" established their powerful rock sound. The Colour and the Shape (1997) brought forth anthems "Monkey Wrench","My Hero" and "Everlong" which became the foundation of the band's intense yet melodic style.
