About Goo Goo Dolls
Goo Goo Dolls, formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, are an American rock band fronted by lead vocalist/guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist/vocalist Robby Takac. Originally rooted in punk, they evolved into mainstream success with their breakthrough single “Name” in 1995 which reached Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Their 1998 album Dizzy Up the Girl marked their commercial peak. The iconic ballad “Iris” spent a record 18 weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart and earned three Grammy nominations. Other standout tracks from the album—“Slide,” “Black Balloon,” “Broadway” and “Dizzy”—became staples on adult and alternative radio.
