Gym Class Heroes
Pop-Rock Band Known for Blending Rap and Alternative Sounds
About Gym Class Heroes
Gym Class Heroes, formed in 1997 in Geneva, New York, is an American rap-rock ensemble led by vocalist and songwriter Travie McCoy, with guitarist Matt McGinley, bassist Eric Roberts, and keyboardist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo. They are celebrated for their inventive fusion of hip‑hop lyricism and live band dynamics.
The group first broke into mainstream recognition with their major-label debut As Cruel as School Children (2006), featuring the hit single “Cupid’s Chokehold” (sampling Supertramp’s “Breakfast in America”), which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. That album also spawned fan favorites like “Clothes Off!!” and showcased their knack for blending catchy hooks with lyrical storytelling.
