Jason Isbell, whose career began in the late 1990s, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Green Hill, Alabama, renowned for his narrative songwriting, raw emotion, and fusion of rock, country and soul.

He first gained acclaim as a member of the Drive-By Truckers (2001–2007), appearing on albums such as Decoration Day and The Dirty South before launching his solo career and forming the 400 Unit.
