Kansas emerged in 1973 from Topeka, Kansas as a renowned American rock band that unites symphonic progressive rock with heartland sensibilities. The original members, Kerry Livgren, Steve Walsh, Rich Williams, Robby Steinhardt, Dave Hope and Phil Ehart formed the band which achieved success through their unique combination of virtuosic musicianship, soaring vocals and philosophical lyrics.

The band achieved their breakthrough success with their fourth studio album Leftoverture (1976) through the enduring rock anthem "Carry On Wayward Son" which established itself as a timeless classic of the classic rock era. The haunting ballad "Dust in the Wind" from Point of Know Return (1977) became a chart-topper which further solidified Kansas' position in rock history. The albums generated multi-platinum success by displaying their complex musical arrangements and powerful live stage presence.
