La Bouche, formed in 1994 in Frankfurt, Germany, are a German-American Eurodance duo whose euphoric, R&B-infused club anthems made them one of the most successful acts of the 1990s Eurodance era. Assembled by legendary German producer Frank Farian — the mastermind behind Boney M and Milli Vanilli — the group paired the powerhouse vocals of South Carolina-born singer Melanie Thornton with the rap verses of American vocalist Lane McCray, blending Eurodance production with soulful, gospel-tinged singing that set them apart from the era's more synthetic pop-dance sound. Their name comes from the French phrase for "the mouth."

Their breakthrough came with their debut single "Sweet Dreams" (1994), which stormed the European club and pop charts, followed by their debut studio album Sweet Dreams (1995), certified platinum on the strength of the album's flood of hits. The follow-up single "Be My Lover" (1995) became their signature global smash — reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996, going gold in the U.S., and topping charts across Europe, Latin America, and Asia to become one of the definitive dance-pop anthems of the decade.
