Sublime is a ska punk band that originated in Long Beach, California in 1988 by blending reggae with punk and hip-hop music and Southern California's relaxed vibes. Bradley Nowell (vocals, guitar), Eric Wilson (bass) and Bud Gaugh (drums) formed the band in 1988 which attracted a devoted fan base through their unorthodox musical fusion and authentic energetic performances.

The underground popularity of 40oz. to Freedom (1992) and Robbin’ the Hood (1994) grew through their songs “Date Rape” and “STP” which combined skate punk intensity with reggae musical elements. The self-titled third album of Sublime (1996) achieved widespread commercial success after the band lost their lead singer, Bradley Nowell.
