About Village People
Village People, formed in 1977, are an American disco group celebrated for their flamboyant stage personas and infectious dance-floor anthems. Conceived by French producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, the group was built around Victor Willis (the original lead singer) and soon expanded into a six member ensemble featuring costumed characters like the cop, the cowboy, the Native American, the biker, the construction worker and the soldier. The band's visual identity became as iconic as its music, helping define an era.
Their self-titled debut album introduced the group’s signature sound, but it was their second release, “Macho Man” (1978), that catapulted them into the spotlight with the title track becoming a club hit.
