About Diana Ross
Diana Ross, whose career began in the early 1960s, is an American singer, actress, and cultural icon born in Detroit, Michigan. Known as the “Queen of Motown,” she first gained fame as the lead singer of The Supremes, one of the most successful girl groups ever with twelve No. 1 pop singles on the Billboard Hot 100. After leaving The Supremes in 1970, Ross launched her solo career with the self-titled album Diana Ross (1970), which included the chart-topping “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Over the next decades, she released 26 studio albums—including notable pop and disco hits like “Touch Me in the Morning,” “Theme from Mahogany,” “Love Hangover,” “Upside Down,” “Endless Love,” and “I’m Coming Out”—achieving six No. 1 singles and selling over 100 million records worldwide.
In addition to music, Ross earned critical acclaim as an actress, winning a Golden Globe and garnering an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues (1972). She also starred in films like Mahogany (1975) and The Wiz (1978), expanding her creative reach.
