Durand Jones & The Indications
Indiana-Bred Soul Band Reviving the Vintage R&B Sound
About Durand Jones & The Indications
Formed in Bloomington, Indiana in 2012, Durand Jones & The Indications are an American soul and R&B band whose vintage sound channels the classic Southern soul, Motown, and Philadelphia soul traditions of the 1960s and '70s. The group came together when members met as students at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, anchored by Louisiana-born frontman Durand Jones (lead vocals) alongside Aaron Frazer (drums, co-lead vocals) — whose distinctive falsetto has become one of the group's signature elements — Blake Rhein (guitar), and Steve Okonski (keyboards).
Their self-titled debut, Durand Jones & The Indications (2016), originally released as a small pressing on Colemine Records, sparked cult-favorite word-of-mouth momentum and led to a wider re-release through Dead Oceans that introduced the band to a global audience. Their breakthrough with the wider soul-revival scene positioned them alongside contemporaries like Leon Bridges, Charles Bradley, and Michael Kiwanuka.
