1990s Minneapolis R&B Band Known for "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)"
About Mint Condition
Formed in 1989 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mint Condition is an American R&B and soul band whose live-band musicianship — rare in a genre dominated by producer-driven acts — has made them one of the most enduring groups in modern soul music. The founding lineup brought together Stokley Williams (lead vocals, drums), Larry Waddell (keyboards), Ricky Kinchen (bass), Homer O'Dell (guitar), Keri Lewis (keyboards), and Jeffrey Allen (saxophone), all products of the fertile Minneapolis music scene that also birthed Prince, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis.
The group's debut album Meant to Be Mint (1991), released on Perspective Records — the label founded by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis — went gold and produced their signature hit "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)," which reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the defining slow jams of the early 1990s. Its follow-up, "Forever in Your Eyes," further established Stokley's soaring lead vocals as a signature of the group's sound.
