SZA is one of the defining voices of 21st-century R&B, a Grammy-winning American singer-songwriter whose blend of alternative soul, hip-hop, and confessional pop has rewritten the modern playbook for the genre. Born Solána Imani Rowe in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1989 and raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, she began posting demo recordings online in the early 2010s before becoming the first female artist signed to Top Dawg Entertainment in 2013.
